Tip 1: Get ticketed and apply for excavator jobs!

Earthmoving Labour Solutions requires all our machine operators to hold the tickets necessary to operate their machines. Our promise to only provide accredited operators who have all their paperwork sorted sets us apart from other labour hire solutions providers, and we uphold that promise on every job.

Getting a High-Risk Work (HRW) licence will let you take on a wider range of excavator jobs. Earthmoving Labour Solutions’ clients often work in niche areas, and need someone they can trust to do the job safely and effectively. A HRW licence is your ticket to being recognised as a machine operator who can get jobs done quickly, efficiently, and safely.

Once you’re fully accredited, you can apply for all the excavator jobs you want! But keep in mind that if you don’t have much working experience under your belt yet, you’ll have better luck starting off by applying for bulk and general excavator jobs rather than those that involve detailed work or final trim.

Tip 2: Learn final trim

The more experience you have in a role, the more employers will trust you to complete complex tasks for them in that capacity. As far as excavator jobs go, final trim excavation is top of the list in terms of complexity and experience required. At Earthmoving Labour Solutions, we make sure we’re providing operators with the right skill level to complete a customer’s job. This means we can offer less skilled operators to complete simpler tasks at a lower rate, and offer our expert operators for final trim work at a higher rate.

While we do allow our operators to set their own rates, you’re generally more likely to get work at a high rate if you can do final trim work.
More experience also means you’ll also be contacted for more jobs in general. Final trim operators aren’t necessarily limited to more complex tasks – final trim work is simply another job on the list of potential excavator tasks you can be hired for and complete for clients.

But if an inexperienced operator is likely to only be contacted for simpler tasks, how are they supposed to get experience doing more complex tasks like final trim work?

When you apply for excavator jobs with us, we suggest noting your interest in learning how to do final trim work. We can then connect you with companies that offer on-the-job training and long-term roles, with upskilling opportunities included in your contract.

Tip 3: Work with a variety of machines

As a full-service labour hire solutions provider, Earthmoving Labour Solutions takes pride in finding the perfect excavator operator for an excavator job. As you’ll be working with our customers’ machines, experience with the machine(s) they use is always a bonus.

That’s why we look at which machines you have experience operating - knowing the different excavator types you’ve operated in the past can give you a boost. And it goes without saying that the more machines you’re proficient in operating, the better.

Our customers know that operating a mini excavator on a residential site and operating a Caterpillar 6090 are different jobs that require very different skill sets. If you’ve only worked with one excavator throughout your career so far, that’s ok – but we recommend trying to identify opportunities to work with other machines, as this will generally increase the number of niche jobs you’re contacted for.

If you don’t have access to a variety of machines to work with, just note the machine you’re experienced in during your application, and that you’re keen to get hands-on with some other machines. We can then try to connect you with excavator jobs that involve operating those different machines.
